This project aims to reduce the high failure rates of Part 1 Engineering students by compiling a research-informed self-assessment tool on study skills—LearnEng. This will be used by students to identify which study skills need improvement and direct them to relevant learner support.

It is anticipated that the findings from the research will have a critical impact on contributing to the current anecdotal evidence we currently have about the nature and extent of incoming students’ study skills, on reducing the attrition rate of Engineering students by addressing poor study skills, and on enhancing academic success by helping them develop a clearer picture of what and how they need to learn.

The findings will inform and support engineering teaching and administration teams to enhance student engagement and pedagogical design.
